Chickenpox is highly contagious and can be caught through coughing, sneezing and contact with the weeping blisters of someone with chickenpox. People with chickenpox can be very unwell and also suffer from intensely itchy blisters on their skin which may leave scars. The chickenpox vaccine is available free of charge for children when they reach 15 months. Children who have not had chickenpox are also eligible for a free vaccine when they reach 11 years.
